Alliance for Pandemic Preparedness
The UW Alliance for Pandemic Preparedness The UW Alliance for Pandemic Preparedness offers a proactive approach to pandemics that addresses the root causes of pandemic risk and accelerates effective action by working with partners in low and middle-income countries (LMICs) to achieve sustainable impact at large scale. The Alliance builds on the resources of our incredible scientific community and the leadership role that the University of Washington has taken in response to COVID-19 at local, national and international levels. Center for AIDS Research (CFAR)
UW/Fred Hutch Center for AIDS Research (CFAR) is an NIH-funded infrastructure program that advances the prevention, detection, and treatment of HIV infection and AIDS by fostering collaborative and interdisciplinary research, supporting career development in early-stage investigators, and providing cutting-edge core support to researchers and scientists at our affiliated institutions. CFAR members include more than 550 UW and affiliated faculty, research scientists, and predoctoral and postdoctoral students. Led by Jared Baeten, MD, PhD.
Center for Health and the Global Environment (CHanGE)
The Center for Health and the Global Environment (CHanGE) facilitates interdisciplinary collaborations across UW’s schools and colleges to promote systems-based approaches to help communities prepare for, cope with, and adapt to a changing climate. Led by Jeremy Hess, PhD.
Disease Control Priorities Network (DCPN)
Disease Control Priorities Network (DCPN) promotes evidence-based priority setting to inform policy and improve resource allocations for health in low-and-middle-income-countries, through the publication of Disease Control Priorities, 3rd Edition, and direct engagement with policymakers, health professionals, academic organizations, and researchers. Led by Dean Jamison, PhD, and Charles Mock, MD, PhD.
Global Center for Integrated Health of Women, Adolescents and Children (Global WACh)
Global Center for Integrated Health of Women, Adolescents and Children (Global WACh) is a joint effort among the UW departments of Global Health, Pediatrics, and Obstetrics & Gynecology. The center makes scientific discoveries, cultivates leaders, and bridges disciplines to advance the tightly connected health and well-being of women, adolescents, and children. Global Injury and Violence Prevention Initiative

Global Medicines Program
The Global Medicines Program works to improve the access, use, safety, quality, cost-effectiveness, and affordability of medicines in low and middle-income countries. Led by Andreas Stergachis, PhD, BPharm.
Global Mental Health Program
The Global Mental Health Program is a regional, interdisciplinary forum for research, training, and service-related activities to address gaps in the implementation of effective global mental health interventions. Led by Pamela Collins, MD, MPH.
Health Alliance International (HAI)
Health Alliance International (HAI) is a UW-affiliated, non-governmental organization that engages in program implementation, research, and evaluation to strengthen government primary health care and foster social, economic, and health equity for all. HAI consists of roughly 150 field staff in Mozambique, Timor-Leste, and Côte d’Ivoire, and 29 staff at headquarters in Seattle. There are currently 29 DGH faculty members with active HAI engagements, led by James Pfeiffer, MPH, PhD.
Health Economic Impact Studies for Translation (HEIST)
Health Economic Impact Studies for Translation (HEIST) facilitates the integration of health economics into global health research and implementation with the overall goal of building efficient programs that maximize health benefits. Led by Joseph Babigumira, MBChB, PhD, Ruanne Barnabas, MBChB, DPhil, and Carol Levin, PhD.
Implementation Science Program
The Department of Global Health is a leader in implementation science and its Implementation Science Program involves a growing array of research and educational activities that span across the Department’s centers, programs and initiatives (notably the Center for AIDS Research Implementation Scientific Working group, HAI, I-TECH, and the Kenya Research Program). Led by Bryan Weiner, PhD, Kenneth Sherr, PhD, MPH, and Melissa Mugambi, MD, PhD.
International Clinical Research Center (ICRC)
International Clinical Research Center (ICRC) conducts a wide range of intervention-based and observational studies with 100+ collaborators across multiple U.S. and international institutions. Co-led by Connie Celum, MD, MPH, and Jared Baeten, MD, PhD, with a biorepository of over 2.5 million specimens, directed by Jairam R. Lingappa, MD, PhD.
International Training & Education Center for Health (I-TECH)
International Training & Education Center for Health (I-TECH) is a global network that works with local partners to develop skilled health care workers and strong national health systems in resource-limited countries. I-TECH promotes local ownership to sustain effective health systems. We are a center in the University of Washington’s Department of Global Health with nearly 2,000 worldwide staff in Africa, Asia, the Caribbean, Eastern Europe, and the United States. I-TECH works with partner organizations to support the development of health work forces and health delivery systems. Led by Pamela Collins, MD, MPH.
Kenya Research and Training Center (KRTC)
The Kenya Research and Training Center (KRTC) provides an academic forum to support both trainees and investigators in the planning, implementation, analysis, and presentation of research conducted in Kenya. Led by Carey Farquhar, MD, MPH, and Scott McClelland, MD, MPH.
Program in Education and Research in Latin America (PERLA)
Program in Education and Research in Latin America (PERLA) encourages interdisciplinary research, training, and implementation activities, and provides a forum to bring faculty, students, and community members together to improve the health and well-being of people in Latin America and the Caribbean. Led by Joseph Zunt, MD, MPH.
Strengthening Care Opportunities through Partnership in Ethiopia (SCOPE)
Strengthening Care Opportunities through Partnership in Ethiopia (SCOPE) improves the lives of people living with HIV/AIDS and prevents new infections through partnership with medical and faith communities dedicated to outreach, education, and training. Led by Microsoft alumna Nancy Andrews in partnership with Judd Walson MD, MPH.
Center for One Health Research (COHR)
The Center for One Health Research (COHR) investigates the health linkages between humans, animals, and their shared environments; including zoonoses, comparative clinical medicine, animals as sentinels, animal worker health, food safety, and the human-animal bond. Through transdisciplinary partnerships, COHR develops innovative strategies for healthy coexistence between humans and animals in sustainable local and global ecosystems. The COHR is housed within the Department of Environmental and Occupational Health Sciences.
