Modulating the Impact of Critical Events in Early HIV Infection: Effect of ART Initiation and Alcohol Use

The objective of the study is to determine the influence of timing of ART initiation and alcohol use on HIV disease course, including detailed analysis of important events occurring shortly after HIV acquisition. The proposed research leverages our ongoing study of acute HIV infection in Peru, where cohort participants report very high-levels of alcohol use and <5% report other substance use.Results of the linked laboratory studies will inform strategies for functional cures of HIV infection.
