With over 130 partner organizations around the world, the Department's training and capacity building efforts are improving health in more than 37 countries around the world. Two powerhouse organizations, Health Alliance International and the International Training & Education Center for Health (I-TECH), are responding to emerging global health needs through training, electronic medical record implementation, and quality assurance.

Health Alliance International (HAI) is a UW-affiliated, non-governmental organization that promotes policies and supports programs that strengthen government primary health care and foster social, economic, and health equity for all. HAI consists of over 150 field staff in Mozambique, Timor-Leste, and Côte d’Ivoire, and 29 DGH faculty members with active engagements. Led by James Pfeiffer, MPH, PhD.

International Training & Education Center for Health (I-TECH) is a collaboration between the University of Washington and the University of California, San Francisco. The two universities work in partnership with local ministries of health, universities, NGOs, medical facilities, and other organizations in more than 30 countries to support the development of a skilled health care workforce and well-organized national health delivery systems. Voluntary Medical Male Circumcisions through support from I-TECH
The PEPFAR Policy Monitoring Project was a multi-disciplinary collaboration between the University of Washington, U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), U.S. President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR), United States Agency for International Development (USAID), and the Health Policy Project. The objective of this project was to monitor progress toward achieving HIV-related policy reforms in PEPFAR partner countries and build policy development and monitoring capacity of key institutions in PEPFAR partner countries.
